After facing one of the hardest crises in its history, the Cuban economy, surrounded by an environment that is hostile to socialist forms of production, has managed to develop during the so called “Special Period” a name given to this phase, which is characterized by a strong process of redesign of the economic policy, an industrial re-conversion and structural transformation of production management.

In this book, there is an outline of some of the most important aspects of this performance, and graphic evidence of the works made during the decade is given.

For a better understanding, the book has been structured in three chapters: A first chapter is an introduction in which some historic features are described; The second one has a macroeconomic character, and shows a global approach; and the third one is a meso and macroeconomic analysis.
