Centro de Información Bancaria y Económica (CIBE) (Banking and Economic Information Centre) still keeps up one of its main objectives which is to make sure that all the national banking system receives news, bibliographical and fact graphical information on economic, financial, banking and legal issues of Cuba and the world. As of the 2001, the centre started to offer information service by electronic mail according to thematic profiles
previously determined by its specialists aimed at ensuring a more efficient level of information to users. Such service is rendered to the whole banking system through links with the other banks which, at the same time, distribute the information to their dependencies. More than 15,000 books and around 39,012 catalogue cards have been incorporated to the data base to which one can accede via the author, title, subject, and if necessary, by isolated words within the description. Also, scanning of articles was begun in February 2001. The Information Analysis Department has addressed its efforts, particularly, to keep updating of international and national economic-financial events to executives, officials and employees of Banco Central de Cuba, institutions of the National Banking System, as well as other organizations and enterprises which may ask for it. In December 2001, a new service was offered consisting of a daily review with a news selection which is placed everyday on the Web Site of CIBE, as well as providing information to different bank entities on issues related to money laundering. The Information Review bulletin is daily sent to 157 users including all banks of the National Banking System. It is placed daily on the Web Sites of Intranets of different organizations and enterprises, therefore, with a broader dissemination. Specialists working on the automation of the centre meet with the objective to raise the quality of services CIBE provides with the purpose of exploiting at a maximum the technical means available and of counting with the highest amount of information in electronic format for its dissemination. They also continue improving the established Sistema Automatizado para Centros de Información (SAUCIN) (Automated System for Information Centres) and are in charge of the Government’s Web Site and of seeking for and transmitting an answer to information requested on different issues related to the Cuban banking system. Revista del Banco Central (Banco Central’s Magazine) is made up at CIBE by a team of specialists and collaborators.
